Financial Aid Application Form

Students should discuss with their study abroad and financial aid advisors the possibility of transferring all or some of their existing financial aid package toward College Year in Athens fees. Be aware that the home institution, not College Year in Athens, must process all applications for Federal and State aid.

The College Year in Athens Board of Trustees has set aside funds for supplemental scholarships for academically qualified students who would otherwise not be able to attend. Customarily awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000 per semester, these scholarships are intended as credit against CYA fees and should not be used to reduce the financial aid package awarded through the home institution. CYA strongly recommends that prior to applying for a CYA scholarship, all interested students confer with their financial aid advisors to discuss whether and how an award from CYA might affect the existing financial aid package. Preference is given to boarding students. For consideration in the primary allotment of CYA scholarship aid, complete applications must be received by April 1. Later applications for aid will be considered only if funds are available.

Scholarships

Ismene Phylactopoulou Memorial ScholarshipThis endowed scholarship, in memory of Ismene Phylactopoulou, founder and first Director of College Year in Athens, was created by the contributions of alumni and supporters of CYA.

George S. Phylactopoulos Memorial Scholarship Partly funded by Dr. and Mrs. George Hatsopoulos, this scholarship was instituted to honor the man who had a critical involvement with College Year in Athens from its inception and for over 30 years.

Raphael and Jean Demos Scholarship This award was established by the Trustees so that the names of two great educators who encouraged and influenced the Program from the beginning may be continually honored.

H.D.F. Kitto ScholarshipThis scholarship honors the memory of a great philologist who taught at College Year in Athens.

Robert Lane ScholarshipThis scholarship honors the memory of a dedicated educator who taught philosophy at College Year in Athens for over two decades.

Harry L. Levy ScholarshipThis scholarship was created to honor the memory of a great philologist who taught at College Year in Athens.

The Helen Sperry Lea Foundation AwardThis award, funded by the Helen Sperry Lea Foundation, provides financial support for deserving and needy American students.

The Alumni AwardThis award is supported by the generous donations of former CYA students.

Caraganis-Welt ScholarshipThis is an annual award to a history major, funded by Mrs. Joan Caraganis Jacobson, CYA '65, in honor of her parents.

Kimon T. Giocarinis Summer Scholarship:This scholarship for summer study has been established to honor a learned educator who served CYA loyally and with distinction as Director of Studies for 30 years.
